Uplifting Indigenous Voices Through Storytelling

ABOUT AJ

AJ Anaswot is a story woven together through the beauty and resilience of her ancestors. She grew up in a small rural town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, where her people—the Chukchansi—have flourished for millennia. After leaving her Tribal lands, she attended the University of California, Davis to study writing and became the first in her family to earn a bachelor’s degree. She’s gone on to build an award-winning career as a Communications leader, uplifting Native voices through work at Indigenous-led nonprofits and state and local government. She is dedicated to using ethical storytelling practices and narrative power to drive systemic change and advocate for all communities facing social injustice and marginalization.

A talented communications strategist, social media manager, writer, photographer, executive producer, and graphics designer, AJ has over a decade of experience in storytelling. She is known for building communications infrastructures from the ground up and inspiring teams that uplift visibility, transparency, and cultural understanding.
